It looks like my hard work and well-laid plans are paying off.

Last week, I was awarded not only “Employee of the Month” for my department, but I also got word of a promotion upcoming in October with a considerably hefty increase in wages. Not to mention I’ll be salaried, not hourly. Everything’s coming up roses.

Or so it would seem.

I work in a very Office Space-like environment. I have roughly nine managers, and each one of them has now made it a point to come by my desk for small talk and other light raillery. Each one also stares at my computer screen intently like they’re just waiting for an IM box to pop up saying “suck my big fat dick”.

OK, so that’s only happened once

On top of that, my fellow co-workers have been responding to the news in less than hospitable ways. Two of my managers, Bobblehead and Jitterbox won’t even speak to me for any more than ten seconds before looking away uncomfortably. Other Black co-workers will cut their eyes at me as I walk by or ask “how come he got a promotion after only being here for five months?”

I’d like to attribute it to actually doing my job, not sitting up sucking on a turkey leg all day and complaining about why your spyware-laden computer “don’t work no mo’”.

In any regard, things are going exactly as planned. I’m tenting my fingers as I write this.

Excellent.
