Because New Year's Resolutions are très gauche. I mean think about it, people make about what…five or ten resolutions? And how many of those get done? Increasing the number and spreading out the time makes accomplishing some goals much easier than others. And if you're lucky, you'll only have to do this once in life so long as you don't subscribe to doing a lot of crap.
The Mission: Complete 101 preset tasks in a period of 1001 days.
The Criteria: Tasks must be specific (ie. no ambiguity in the wording) with a result that is either measurable or clearly defined. Tasks must also be realistic and stretching (ie. represent some amount of work on your part).
The list was completed today, so 1001 days from now will be September 25, 2007. I'll be 26 years old by the time I finish these, so let's go!
- Learn to drive.
- Buy a car.
- Buy a laptop.
- Write a book.
- Raise my credit score to over 650.
- Learn the violin.
- Take voice lessons and get my range back.
- Get back into Japanese swordfighting.
- Get a better job (i.e., one I like AND I get well paid AND my work is appreciated).
- Revamp my wardrobe.
- Develop BlackComix into more than just ideas in my head.
- Take up video production (i.e., learn Final Cut Pro, etc.)
- Get a boyfriend of more than 6 months.
- Have amazing sex like the guys in the TitanMen videos without performance anxiety.
- Have a long talk with Golden Boy (this one might be overkill).
- Lose 20 pounds.
- Read (or listen to) at least 3 books a month.
- Visit the World of Coca-Cola museum.
- Eat some Popeye's.
- Cook a three-course meal.
- Raise fresh herbs.
- Visit Paris in spring.
- Throw a party (not pity).
- Stop drinking soda for a month.
- Cook dinner from scratch for a month.
- Take care of all necessary dental work.
- Play poker in Vegas.
- Eliminate my credit card debt.
- Get a new desk chair.
- Pay all bills on time for 3 months straight.
- Streak.
- Assemble my family tree.
- Spend a day at a spa.
- Take a cooking class.
- Take Amtrak somewhere.
- Wirelessly network my apartment.
- Learn Java, JSP and servlets.
- See a play at the Fox Theatre.
- Attend a concert at Chastain Park.
- Go barhopping and get crazy drunk.
- Start a workout regimen I can comfortably stick to (no gym joining!).
- Launch Soapbloggers.
- Take more photos and integrate them into the site using
Flickr. some other image displaying tool.
Buy a cool, kick-ass jacket. 1/3/05: I bought a very nice wool 3/4 length coat with hood from Old Navy.
- Make sushi at home.
- Burn something in effigy while standing over it smoking a cigarette.
- Buy a pair of glasses (fake lenses) that make me look smart and sexy.
- Get TiVo!
- Learn to play at least one Nobuo Uematsu piece either on piano, violin or trombone.
Stay awake for two days. 12/29/04: Umm…I stayed up for two days. That's all.
- Learn to play pool well.
- Buy a new bed.
- Write without fear.
- Formulate a business plan for my web design business.
- Or get a job with a great design company.
Quit a job in a grand fashion. 01/20/05: *tootsie roll*
- Get fired from a job for being a total slacker and breaking all the rules.
- Buy a plant.
Go to a Broadway play. 12/30/04: Saw Rent at the Nederlander Theatre.
- Attend the symphony.
- Paint a portrait or landscape worthy of hanging on the wall.
- Attend a trivia night at a restaurant…and win!
- Fly a kite in Piedmont Park.
- Go 24 hours without using the computer.
Get a new cell phone provider. 12/28/04: Cingular with the Motorola V220.
Zero out my GATelco balance. 12/28/04: Mailed the check out today.
- Drink at least 6 glasses of water daily (8 oz.).
- Get my tarot readings down pat.
- Get a kitchen table.
- Spend all day in bed with a man.
- Move to a new apartment.
- Enlist the help of a financial advisor.
- Enlist the help of a psychologist/psychiatrist.
- Reap the benefits of either FreeFlatScreens.com or FreeiPods.com.
- Get professional pictures taken.
- Enroll in an educational program in web design, graphic design or writing.
Buy a luxurious bathrobe and slippers. 1/3/05: I bought a very luxurious grey cotton Nautica bathrobe and brown moccasin flannel slippers from TJ Maxx.
- Make my perfect "date" fantasy come true (i.e., a guy coming over, cooking dinner, eating it, slow dancing, making love, waking up, cooking breakfast, sharing the crossword puzzle, going out, and then coming back here alone…to hopefully repeat the scene again one day!).
- Watch Cowboy Bebop, Rurouni Kenshin and Akira in their entirety.
- Buy a gig bag for my trombone.
- Go to a party and have fun without getting drunk.
- Learn Flash and Dreamweaver.
- Buy some comfortable and nice-looking dress shoes.
- Go on a road trip/day trip.
- Buy something from an infomercial.
- Save $2000 (or more).
- Visit Nova, Kia and Lise (and anyone else I might not remember right now) in D.C.
- Decorate for Christmas.
- Scrap the whole "only buy gifts on birthdays and Christmas" notion and get into buying gifts for people all year 'round.
- Start my own holiday traditions which DON'T include going home.

Eat at the Saturday breakfast buffet at the Chick-fil-A down the street from me. 1/8/05: Whew! Yes…and it was very tasty. Must do that again since you can get the buffet TO GO.
- Get on a game show (or at least in the audience).
- Go through my clothes and give the stuff I no longer wear to charity.
- Visit the Farmer's Market (either the one on Buford Highway or in Dekalb County).
- Get a personal video player (the Archos AV320 Video Recorder comes to mind)
- Eat more fruits and vegetables.
- Start the Black Weblog Awards.
- Shop at IKEA Atlanta (probably won't happen until Spring 2005).
- Crash my family reunion.
Splurge at Teavana. 1/7/05: I bought this glass mug/loose-leaf infuser plus five teas (Darjeeling Puttabong, Masala Green Chai, Gyokuru Imperial, Sweet Cranberry Black, and some Brazillian Maracuya Passionfruit). Mmmm….
