How do you write something masterful, inspiring and entertaining enough to be worthy of such a monumental event as your 500th post? Stats!
I'm going to take a page from SmilingDL's blog and ask you to blow my comments section up. I'm talking as many relevant comments as you can leave. Start a conversation. Drop some kudos. Do whatcha like; it's pizza, Negro Modelo and Season 3 of "Sanford and Son" for me tonight. Call it my congratulatory carb fest. Have a great weekend. Filed under: News Comments: Comments |

can't / never did nothin' / and neither did couldn't / never did nobody no good
The first single "Till I Get To U" showcases Costa's rock-and-roll side with this fun alphamusical trompe l'oeil through past loves and losers. Think "Like a Feather" with a triple shot of electric guitar espresso and a high note chaser. Costa continues her vocal acrobatics switching to soulful tunes like "I Gotta Know" and "Fatherless Child", no doubt an homage to her famous father and his memory. "Fooled Ya Baby" is the album's surprise track, starting off as a earthy ballad and morphing into a surrealistic acid trip into Hendrixesque riffs and Costa's trademark screams. And always being one to venture into different and exciting territory, Costa does not disappoint on a cappella bass lines in "Swing It Around" and even tackles Nina Simone's "Funkier Than A Mosquitoes Tweeter" with a bravado and badass rock twist that would do the High Priestess proud. More than the princess to the Puccini of Pop, Nikka Costa's can'tneverdidnothin' proves this little lady can do whatever she wants and sound damn good doing it. ![]() The search is on to find a new apartment before July 1. There's added pressure because this will be my last apartment, fingers crossed. Lord knows I've stayed in some shitholes before, so I'm trying to take every single precaution I can think of to make sure this place is going to be comfortable and livable enough so when I make the move to a condo or a house, it'll be much smoother. Speaking of condos, those high-priced sons-of-bitches are popping up everywhere and driving people to either move OTP to one of the hick towns or gentrify the quirky areas and ghettos into what will eventually become fodder for more condos. Maybe people are paying mortgages on them; I don't know. What's a single guy gotta do to rent a deecnt 1-bedroom in this city for under $750? No, the answer is not get a roommate. Fuck no. Over the past two weeks, I went apartment hunting and turned up on a bunch of nice properties. All were close to MARTA, all have affordable specials running, and they seem to be good properties. Until you drop in on a Saturday. My Promove agent had told me "only go by apartment complexes during the week, preferably on a Tuesday. That's when they'll be at their best to view." I had to disagree with that bit of advice. During the week, most people are at work, so of course things will look better. I want to see the complex when people are off of work and have let their hair down. Are the neighbors noisy? Is there a lot of congregating around common areas? Are people washing cars everywhere? Is it dirty? Saturday afternoons answer those questions for me about an apartment complex. So I viewed six properties and asked all the tough questions. Only one property had an actual noise policy, which is great since I currently live next to some bad ass kids, loud ass Mexicans, and a wannabe record producer and can barely get a minute's peace. And no matter how much I throw the City of Atlanta's Noise Ordinance in their face, it gets louder. And the management could care less about it; they just gloss over it and chalk it up to "city living." My new piece of apartment hunter advice for the renting Atlantan: DON'T GO WITH JULIAN LECRAW. ![]() ![]() Nearly all the places I went to had scads of kids running around uncontrolled. One of the places smelled like a men's station urinal, and some were just plain ol' seedy as hell. But I think the place I found is a keeper and I can't wait to move. Anyone got a truck or a spare pair of muscles? Filed under: Miscellaneous Comments: Comments |

So this weekend, VIBE's started to run newspaper advertising for their first annual VIBE MusicFest June 10-12. Competing with it for audience attendance are Music Midtown (with tons of advertising around including signposts and radio commercials) and the Atlanta Film Festival. But VIBE might have a leg-up with Lauryn Hill headlining.
So this means there could be all new material from her upcoming album! Or maybe even something in the form of a Bob Marley tribute! Remember, you heard it here first. Filed under: Entertainment Comments: Comments |

Pisceans possess a gentle, patient, malleable nature. They have many generous qualities and are friendly, good natured, kind and compassionate, sensitive to the feelings of those around them, and respond with the utmost sympathy and tact to any suffering they encounter. They are deservedly popular with all kinds of people, partly because their easygoing, affectionate, submissive natures offer no threat or challenge to stronger and more exuberant characters. Bullshit. Ladies and gentlemen, I submit to you…the evil Pisces. For those who don't know, the evil Pisces manifests when the natural Pisces desire to understand and help mankind is overwhelmed by their frustration and disgust toward those they are trying to aid. This usually leads to the typical Pisces desire to eradicate the human race. ![]() Umm…yeah, that would be me. Filed under: Love in the Life and Personal Comments: Comments |
