I think I'm going to start calling these all-link posts Asides since they're not really full-post material but just a bunch of off-kilter topics I've been mulling over. So let's get to it!

Site Design Projects

  • So as many of y'all know, I just finished up the last design changes on Bernie's site. It was a lot more back-end work than front-end, but we're both satisfied with the look and functionality of the site, and it was good for me to get my hands wet again with MT code.
  • Which reminds me…do you need a design for your site? Can we talk?
  • New projects on the horizon include the redesign of this site (by September 1, hopefully since there'll be a lot of recategorization) and the Black Weblog Awards (by August 1). I'll probably be working on that all weekend once the newlyweds leave on Saturday.

In the Life of Karsh

  • So me, Death Phoenix and Winston Shakespeare had lunch and dinner yesterday. Today, it's computer shopping so she can take advantage of the sales-tax holiday. More on that later.
  • McQuickie and I are still fucking. This whole "getting sex three times a week" is doing wonders for my temperament and skin. That frequency will probably increase once he starts school. Excellent.
  • I'm kicking myself because I recently had to turn down a job offer in NYC. They called me at work and said "We're very interested and want you to come in for an interview tomorrow. It's on-site here in NYC." And here I thought it'd be a telecommuting position because of the nature of the job. So after politely declining the offer and then putting up with this Dynastyesque bullshit I have both at work and in real life lately, I have to ask myself…what the hell is keeping me in Atlanta?
  • While taking a late lunch on Thursday with Goofball, who should I run into but Mike, one of the hosts of the Ultimate Blogger competition I was in a few months back. He was in town for his brother's birthday. How cool was that?
  • I'm thinking of doing Blogathon 2005 and blog for AID Atlanta, a non-profit organization that provides education and support services for people living with HIV. I'm not sure if I'll have to work the weekend Blogathon occurs or not, but once I get that straightened out, I should be good to go.

101 in 1001 Updates

  • 25. Cook dinner from scratch for a month. I started on July 28 with a chicken and chorizo stoup which I flavored up with some cumin, pablano peppers and jicama. We'll see where I am from now on August 28.
  • 72. Enlist the help of a financial advisor. I had a consultation this morning with an advisor, which would have went well had I actually liked her simple ass. She kept saying "Oh yeah? Wow…" to everything I told her, had this crazy look in her eye, and then said I'd have to pay $600 to enlist their services. Shit, I'd have to financially plan for a financial planner! I told her I couldn't fork over that kinda cash today and she says "Figures" under her breath. Trick. The saga continues. Wu-Tang. Wu-Tang.
  • 97. Start the Black Weblog Awards. Well we already know where this is down the pike. Stay tuned.

Media

  • I got my copy of Rashid Darden's Lazarus in the mail yesterday! I just started reading it and already I'm loving it. Definitely a break from the regular template of most gay novels out there.
  • First there was the Burger King commercial with Hootie, and now there's the BK Rebel Unit, four Black superheroes fighting crime…in the name of some goddamned fried chicken fingers (or chicken fries, as BK calls them). Just go ahead give 'em softshoe powers, why don't 'cha? An equally dumb ad serving from Crispin Porter + Bogusky is Coq Roq.
  • Comedy Central probably feels they've struck oil once again with the medicore Mind of Mencia. Don't get me wrong…Carlos Mencia is an averagely funny comedian. And because I like thick funny guys, under the right conditions, he could get it. But does he have a weekly show's worth of material outside of beaner and wetback jokes? No! Oh wait…substitute "beaner and wetback" with "niggas and Black folks" and that's Chappelle's show. My bad, y'all.

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Altar (Part 1)
Posted on 07/26/05 @ 10:00 pm

I've never really been a fan of marriage. Same-sex or different, the institution never blipped on my radar as one of the "things to do before I turn 30″. It's not that I'm a love hater or anything, but romantically speaking, I'm quite myopic on the long term front, especially when you start getting laws and shit involved. Pisces are all about change, you dig?

So imagine my shock when in casual conversation with Death-Phoenix she dropped the M-word like it was a second-rate catchphrase on a neophyte blogger's lips.

"Say what?"

"That's right Karshie…Mamma got married last weekend!"

"To…"

"Winston Shakespeare…who else?"

Anyone else, I hoped. It had been about a year since they met, or rather, since she moved in with him. A supposed old friend from high school, a former prom date, and all that jazz. While I would love to think it's about love and happiness, and perhaps it is, she's got a knack for using men as a means to an end.

I mean, look at Sperm Donor.

"He's got money, baby. Let me tell you…he may look like a bum, but he is P-A-I-D. He owns his own home, his own car, and has money in the bank. I went to visit his daughter and family up in Boston last month, and let me tell you baby…P-A-I-D."

Yes…his own house and car.

"It's because of him I've been able to travel like I want..live like I want…it's because of him I can do the things I've always wanted to do!"

"Well…umm…congratulations. So what's your new last name now?"

"Death to Shakespeare."

Really. I'm trying to be happy. From what she told me, they had a small private ceremony. Ma'dea and Yes Man were present, as was Estranged Aunt who was the maid of honor. Smokedawg would've been there, but he's doing another stint in the clink for God-knows-what this time. This weekend, they will be up in Atlanta as a stop to their honeymoon in North Carolina and want to see me.

Well, she wants to see me. Not sure about Winston, but given our last meeting, I'm sure it won't be all smiles and handshakes. She's more than welcome to stay with me. But him? Get a motel room, pal.

Ain't karma a bitch?

Thursday Night Quick Hits
Posted on 07/22/05 @ 12:00 am

So while I'm finishing up some posts for Metroblogging Atlanta, I figure I'll go ahead and get rattle off some things on my mind.

  • While I can't stop watching it, this Being Bobby Brown show is some of the most ignant shit to grace my television. And it ain't even on BET!
  • This week, I got to play around with the new version of Windows (codename Longhorn) and the Xbox 360. Think Mac OS X about five years back and you've got Longhorn (complete with Konfabulatoresque widgets). The Xbox 360 is sick though. Sick.
  • The Pinks have struck back! Hortense, Micro-Manager and D.A.W.G. are proving to me that White women in America can get away with whatever the hell they want, including half-assing important tasks and giggling their way through meetings while accomplishing nothing.
  • Work has been kicking my ass all this week and last week. My last big one will be ending this week, so I will have a bit of a reprieve before starting back up. Just in time for some new designs…
  • …like my portfolio site and…
  • …The Black Weblog Awards, coming August 1 (or sooner). Stay tuned, y'all.
  • More bombings in London today. Before you know it, the old nursery rhyme will end up being an omen of doom.
  • So that's what happened to the Yahoo! chat rooms on Messenger….
  • Guess what's coming to [adult swim] in October? That's right y'all…The Boondocks! Buzzscope has the info as well as some cool video clips. However, I can't tell if this is Huey or Riley on the right. Riley, maybe? Thanks, Tony!
  • And to end it off, this horrendous picture of Mary J. Blige and Chaka Khan.
  • Poor Mary; she looks like an overtanned white woman with that blown back curly blonde hair. And Chaka? Three words: Teddy bear dominatrix.

    Love her music though!

How can you have faux black gay blogger reality shows without the Black Gay Blogger?
