JULY
The month started off on a sour note with the death of R&B legend Luther Vandross [link] and kinda went downhill from there with a weekend of frustration [link] [link] at the-party-which-shall-not-be-spoken-of and missing someone's birthday by a few days. Sheesh. With three friends down and none left, I decided to toss my hat back into the freelance web design ring [link] and tried to lobby for 100,000 unique hits for July [link]. I didn't make it. What the hell happened in June? I gave an update on my 101/1001 goals [link], broke my self-imposed silence about my current job [link] and revisited the notion of personal ads [link] during an extremely lucky weekend of sex and companionship. Tony celebrated his 5th year of blogging [link], Death-Phoenix jumped the broom [link], and the Asides started [link]. AUGUST
While August was a slow month on the blog, it was anything but slow in real life. I kicked off the first annual Black Weblog Awards, which went very smoothly (although it raised controversy and eyebrows and was even deemed gulp racist). I did manage to take time out and pay homage to the new-and-improved Timbaland [link], wondered why new beaus always needed to know about my exes [link] and how my work situation is getting worse [link]. SEPTEMBER
September was another blah month; I talked about the online/offline dichotomy of getting to know people [link], gushed about my time in Cali at Twin and Triplet's wedding [link], and started the BlackGayBlogger.com blogcasts [link]. Be warned — the audio is rough. I also started my password-protected work posts, mainly because I didn't want another "Karshed" situation on my hands. OCTOBER
October was all about blogcasts and work posts — go through the archives and you'll see what I mean [link]. On a sad note, the world lost two great pioneers: August Wilson [link] and Rosa Parks [link]. NOVEMBER
Should I continue with the blogcasts? Despite the haters, I pressed on [link]. The Brand Atlanta Campaign came out, and all I could think about was how much I needed to leave the city [link]. On the real [link]. The now-famous "Man of Morehouse" blogcasts kicked off this month as well [link]. DECEMBER
World AIDS Day capped off the month [link], and if you weren't paying attention, you could almost say that this was "Morehouse month" on the blog with the continuation of the blogcasts and the report on Morehouse police assaulting a civil rights figure [link]. Completely unsatisfied with my job, I threw out the resumes and started interviewing with a big company for a big position [link]. With the year wrapping up, I turned the focus inward thinking about the future [link]. addressing the rubbernecking naysayers [link] and lamenting on the holiday season [link]. I also decided to show more of my tech side, posting a tutorial on how to modify your Wordpress dashboard [link] and making the leap into advertising on the blog [link]. Oh, did I mention I'm in Chicago right now? Chicago bloggers, holla at me! It's been a hell of a year, and I hope that next year brings more happiness and less bullshit. To all the readers, commenters, haters and lovers of BlackGayBlogger.com, I wish you a happy new year. Let's make 2006 right! Filed under: Miscellaneous Comments: 3 Comments |

Like I said in an earlier post, I feel like 2005 is already over and this is just a grace period until 2006. Through these days, I end up reflecting on the months before, events which have happened and people who are gone. Through all of those, this site actually ended up being a part of all of those things. So without further delay, let's take a look back. JANUARY
I started off 2005 in Donald's apartment with Phillipe, sharing bruschetta and bubbly in Harlem [link]. This was one of the many high points of my trip to New York City [link] [link]. I came back to Atlanta with a new sense of purpose — and a list of 101 things to do in 1001 days [link]. On the dating front, I was meeting a lot of great guys, but was apprehensive because they weren't Black [link]. Could a blogger get some sexual chocolate in the '05? The Black Bloggers Association started up [link], and the month ended with a battle of the bands [link], questions about Black representation in the media [link], and a pink slip [link]. FEBRUARY
Yeah…so scratch that whole "meeting a lot of guys" thing — here today, gone tomorrow [link]. I raised the question of gay male biphobia [link], and the "Karshed" incident actually made the Washington Post [link]. Valentine's Day came and went (thank God) [link], and I got a new job! [link] Well that unemployment stint was quick. MARCH
March began with reflection and remembrance on the murder of Rashawn Brazell [link]. My birthday came and went…with no Opportunity [link]. That coupled with some other personal issues forced me to take a short hiatus [link]. APRIL
So Karsh has issues…and no sense of humor [link]. In my downtime, I slammed Kazoop.com [link], reviewed Tangled Sheets [link], Sin City [link] and Down for Whatever [link]. I started seeing a shrink and had a rather interesting breakthrough [link]. Not to mention an IRS audit [link]. My old college buddy Buffy went under the knife [link] and some crazy White broad ran away from her problems [link]. Must be nice. MAY
Am I the Ultimate Blogger? [link] Well…no, but it was a good run while it lasted [link]. I pontificated on the phenomenon of the "evil Pisces" [link] and also started my apartment hunt [link]. I also hit 500 entries this month! [link]. My move out of Buckhead was hastened with this jackass sitting atop a construction crane a few blocks from my place [link]. JUNE
Or as I like to call it, the site's most popular month even though it just had a bunch of memes. Karsh is quite the bookworm [link], and when white girls go missing, I could possibly care less (even when the media can't stop talking about it) [link]. I tore Kensington's tech support a new one [link], and this site celebrated its two-year blogaversary! [link] I also raised the question of "if there are so many men in Atlanta, why are we still single?" [link], and finally moved from my old place into my new apartment [link]. The infamous Odes began too, featuring the oh-so-sexy Dhani Jones [link]. Check back either tomorrow or Saturday for Part 2. Peace! Filed under: Past Tense Comments: 1 Comment |

If you scroll down to the end of the columns on the right, you'll notice something new… ADVERTISING! That's right…I went there. Frankly, with over 40,000 unique hits a month, I don't know why I didn't implement this sooner. Hell, if I can get enough money to pay my hosting bill every month ($10), I'll figure this is a pretty good idea. So do me a favor — every now and then, go and click on the Google ads on this blog and help support BlackGayBlogger.com. Hey, at least I'm not whoring out my PayPal link again. Oh, what the hell…. ![]() The current Wordpress Dashboard is boring. Like I said in my last post, aside from the relevant information like your latest Technorati mentions and comments, the built-in feeds from Planet Wordpress and the Wordpress Development Blog are dated and often times not very relevant to the average Wordpress blogger. So what do most people do? They skip it. Lately, I've only gone to check the Dashboard if I wanted to know who's mentioning me in their blog. Other than that, I rarely go there. I'll show you how to get more out of your Wordpress Dashboard so you can turn it into a portal for your favorite feeds. Sure, you could install a plugin to do these similar functions, but if you're like me, you like to get your hands dirty. Up for a little code-diving? Fire up your FTP client or navigate to the wp-admin/index.php file and let's go! Don't forget to backup! Filed under: Technology Comments: Comments Off |

![]() I upgraded the blog this morning to Wordpress 2.0 — luckily, everything went off without a hitch and there were no major fires. Even more surprising was that all of my plugins still worked. With the new upgrade comes better spam-prevention features, a shiny new admin console and a few other changes. But there's still some things that need a little work.
