Man of Morehouse (Part 3 of 4)

Part three of the Man of Morehouse series talk about my junior year and how Morehouse is gayer than a lot of people think (even with the taboo of Morehouse men dating and fucking each other). From sex parties to summa cum laudes, Black gay men had power at the 'House, and anyone who says otherwise is blowing smoke. I also give a peek into the conclusion of the Man of Morehouse series and the issues surrounding the Love/Price incident and the fallout that occurred afterwards. Wuz up mista! Love the entire blog especially the "Man of Morehouse" blogcasts. I actually thought about attending Morehouse when I graduated by in 1996 but changed my mind. I dont think I would have done well there at all…lol. I think I would have been caught up in the the whole ATL club scene as well at having the boys at school. I'm 28 now so I have calmed down quite a bit but from 19-24 I was a force to be reckoned with….lol. Oh yeah, hope you get that job!

Wow, I went to art school and didn’t realize what I was missing. I am loving this series on your school daze experience. I just wish more of the photos had survived. Sounds too damn hot. I hope you extend it to a 10 part series.

Morehouse apprently operates on the same principle as the military, "don't ask, don't tell." We know it's there, but as long as we don't acknowledge it publicly, we'll just pretend it doesn't exist.

I really enjoyed the Morehouse series thus far. When I first heard about it, I thought you were gonna be one of those people who tried to potray Morehouse as an all gay school, but I'm so glad that you showed it for what it truly is. It has just as many homosexuals as any other HBCU. I can't say that my experience so far at Morehouse has been as interesting as your's, but it has made me think of what would I have to say if anything about my school. Thanks for sharing your experiences and point of view.

Your Morehouse blogcasts are interesting but misleading. You are getting too old to believe some of the 'schoolish' innuendo you are suggesting to be true, and if you don't actually believe the claims then you should not be disseminating such rumors to shape false opinions of the college. (The facts about the college, even those that are critical or unflattering, are fine. The unfounded, salacious suppostions are not.)

Here are just a few short examples.

President Massey's "mansion" is a very nice home. It belongs to the college, not to the Masseys, and will be home for future presidents of Morehouse. Like many college presidents' homes, it is not a mere residence. It is a site of meetings and small conferences and a place to host and entertain alumni, guests, and donors. As such, the home needs staffing. Lots of gay students are the staffers? I take your word on that. But your insinuation of something unsavory connected to that seems unfounded and, likely, untrue.

Students are not assigned housing based on their looks. If you don't want to believe that, just think for a moment. As much as I wish it were not the case, Morehouse is not so well organized that it could get all of those photos copied or delivered to the housing department from admissions and then back into their files in the admissions office. A gay floor, though, is not so difficult to arrange based on the expressed preferences of returning students for their following year's room assignment. Once the reputation was established, "let's get together and ask to live here," then it can be maintained with some asking to be there and others asking not to be.

Your "air quoted" insinuation of improper conduct involving Dr. McLoughlin (I feel quite certain that is the gay professor you referred to) is (again) unfounded and, likely, untrue. I know McLoughlin better than you. I cannot say with certainty that nothing improper has occurred between him and students, but I think his mentoring was merely that. If I am wrong, then you should have more stories to tell. Otherwise, you are disparaging him and the college's reputation with your insinuation.

By the way, the college was not in denial about homosexuality on campus. We know it exists and has for generations, as is the case on every college campus. I think there has been a tendency to prefer to keep it in the proverbial closet, as has been the case on most other campuses until recent decades of many people being more open about sexuality. The desire to keep gay student issues a private matter at Morehouse is probably magnified by concerns about male identity and public opinion, including the important opinions of prospective students and their parents.

I don't like providing a fake email address, but I prefer to remain anonymous. Just as you are very public with your views, I am very private with mine.

I hope you will recant some of your misleading innuendo in your final Morehouse blogcast.

All comments are appreciated, and only moderated in the case of spammers of which, from your lengthy comment, you are not. I'm not sure who this teacher is you speak of, and that person is definitely not named in this podcast, so perhaps jumping to that conclusion is wrong, eh?
