Asides #27

  • You may have noticed that the trademark orange is not here for the month; that's because I've gone pink for October to help bring attention to Breast Cancer Awareness Month, get people talking about breast cancer and hopefully raise money for research.
  • This was going to end up being a blogcast, but my mouth feels like I've been chewing alcohol-soaked thumbtacks, so no talky for me tonight. Speaking of blogcasts, I know I've been tempting the lot of you with promises of interviews for weeks now, and while I have the system in place to do so, I'll be honest with you…I'm kinda already over the idea of doing it. For those of you who expressed interest in doing the blogcast interviews, I apologize. I'll be more than happy to possibly do a written interview. (In a way, that might actually be better for posterity.)
  • I deleted my Myspace page — sorry, but I just couldn't find any deep-seated interest in it like I do with my blog. Or Facebook, for that matter.
  • Jesus, Mary and Joseph, how abysmally disappointing was the season premiere of "Girlfriends" last night? Joan running through post-Katrina New Orleans (from the French Quarter to the 9th ward; that's a helluva jog), Lynn still being a freeloader, and corny-as-Kansas William…lord have mercy, I can't believe that this and "Everybody Hates Chris" is all we've got in terms of Black sitcoms on network TV. I don't count "All of Us" (because it sucks) or "The Game" (because it sucks too). Mara Brock Akil should take her ball and go home since the CW ain't exactly playing fair with her show(s).

Oh, wait…how could I forget about Flavor of Love 2? I mean, it's ass-nekkid females ready to drop trou (and 'bows) for the love of a near-50 cockroach! Now that's television!
  • What is up with all these school shootings lately? Man, I'm glad I'm taking my classes online.
  • I've been thinking about putting together a black gay blogger meetup this month (while we still have 80s in October), but I'll be honest…I don't want to have to be the one to put it together. A shame, I know, but c'mon…I can't be the only BGB in ATL that wants to do something like this, right?
  • Oh snap…I just got my state retirement check in the mail. The adult in me says to save it or finish paying off that IRS debt. But the kid in me says…SHOPPING SPREE! OK, maybe not a spree, but I could use some new shoes. Preferably these (since I didn't get them for Christmas):
    Cute shoes!
  • I really think blogging has jumped the shark. To that effect, we as bloggers either need to start putting out better content or jump into other forms of media to tell our stories. Podcasting, videocasting…hell, why not make up the next form of telling our stories? Let's not be common — it's time for some next-level type shit.
