Now I gotta pick one right back! This is my thing with Rangel -- while I understand his place in history and where he is now, this second talk of reinstating the draft in hopes of perking up the ears of his fellow politicians seems like he's grasping for straws to prove a point. I really don't see how if the draft were to take place -- which would have people from 18 to 42 in the ranks -- those same politicians wouldn't do some double-talking and shady dealings so Junior and Missy won't have to go to service.

Then again, gays still can't serve (conscripted or not), so there might be some closet reveals when or if the man from the draft board shows up.

Ok, buddy. Gotta pick a fight with you.

The Honorable Charles Rangel, the Congressman from MY district here in New York and the dean of the New York Congressional Delegation--the most influential congressional delegation in the House of Representatives (cuz New Yorkers don't play)--will soon be the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, the most powerful committee in the House. It decides how our federal funds are spent. He will be the first Black man to hold this position.

Throughout the six year debacle we call the Bush Administration, Congressman Rangel has been one of the few voices in opposition to all of the sinister, misguided, idiotic and underhanded policies coming out of the White House. When Democrats lined up in support of the unnecessary war in Iraq, Congressman Rangel correctly voted against it.

HE IS HARDLY A SECOND RATE AL SHARPTON. HE IS THE MOST POWERFUL BLACK MAN IN WASHINGTON DC TODAY.

If you understand that this stupid war is being fought by lower class Black, Latin and White soldiers, who had few options open to them back home beyond the military, then you would understand what a stroke of genius his call for a draft is. If everybody were eligible to serve, do you think we ever would have invaded? How large would the anti-war movement grow if the sons and daughters of rich White people were forced to serve?

The anti-war movement during Vietnam was a direct result of the fact that we had a draft and everybody was forced to go, even those who opposed the war. This is a brilliant strategy designed to build opposition to the war. People who oppose either haven't thought it through or don't care that somebody else's kids are getting killed over there.
