Five Things You Don't Know About Me
Posted on 01/16/07 @ 12:14 am

Don't kill me Ryan — I'm just now getting around to answer this meme. For most of y'all who have been around since the beginning, some of these might be that much of a surprise. Or maybe they will. Who knows? Here we go.

  1. I have a prosthetic body part. My right elbow is pretty much a series of plates and pins. Got the scars to prove it too. It still twinges when the atmospheric pressure drops and what not, and when it gets cold, my elbow kills me.

  2. I'm autistic. Specifically, I have Asperger's Syndrome. For the most part, it makes body language sorta hard to figure out, and social skills are a bitch. Making friends? Maintaining relationships? Please…everything I know I've learned from practice. And John Hughes' movies.

  3. I didn't hit the sauce until I was 22. I didn't steal that one — I was a serious teetotaler until I realized how the alcohol loosened me up and actually made me sociable. See #2. Yeah, not the best way to deal, but it works in moderation.

  4. I'm really not that crazy about web design. Don't get me wrong…it pays the bills and I know about usability and SEO and semantics, but 9 times out of 10, it just bores the hell out of me. It's nice seeing an idea come together, but if I could give it up, I would. I blame my current job — I did like design before I became part of a production house. I guess it's like the chef that suddenly works for a franchise. Nothing you make is your own — it's just slight variations on a pallid theme.

  5. I'd leave it all behind in a heartbeat. That's the thing about moving around a lot and stuff — you never have a sense of permanence. If something better came along, I'd be outta here so quick. This job, this city…everything. I got no problems with making fresh starts.

Yay or Nay
Posted on 01/15/07 @ 11:24 pm

Well…now that a brotha feels about ten pounds lighter after that post-Festivus airing of grievances and all, I need to get back to my regular posting. Definitely have some things to say about Hop-along Bush and some other things. Like how about I had to work today? I'm saying…you'd think Atlantans could get a by on one of the few historical people in the city still giving it a positive rep, but noooo…..

Meh. Here's a meme. Grabbed this from over at J.'s spot who grabbed it from Tiffany who grabbed it from some other folks.

BGB Blogcast #46: One Too Many
Posted on 01/14/07 @ 10:04 pm

I haven't done a blogcast in damn near over a month. Sue me. I've had a lot going on and I talk about most of it here. I also address some viewer mail I've received. Not much to say other than…umm…happy new year, I guess?

Phoenix Wright: Justice for All

Oh, I am so excited for this game to come out on the 16th. I am really loving the diverse titles for the DS, including this anime-inspired law drama.

Asides #34

  • I first heard about this on 90.1; apparently, MARTA, in another inane effort to increase local ridership, wants to build infill stations along the already existing rail lines. I don't know if I agree with them doing this though. On the one hand, beefing up the system where it already lies is a good idea, but extending it outside of I-285 should really be MARTA's biggest focus. That's what's really going to get people saying "hey, maybe this thing is worth riding to more than the airport/a Thrashers game/a Hawks game/a Falcons game/Philips Arena". OK, I'm kidding. No one sees the Hawks. I agree with where Doug Monroe is coming from about the train not going to Turner Field either. I never understood why taking that cramped and smelly Braves Shuttle from Five Points would be a considerable alternative to a traffic snarl along Capitol Ave. Eh….

  • Via Blackfolk: Spartakus (and the sun beneath the sea)! Man, that brings back memories of sitting criss-cross-applesauce in front of Ma'dea's floor model TV eating Froot Loops. In retrospect, how chill is that intro music? Makes me wonder if Fantastic Planet is on DVD.

  • I think it's safe to say that Vox is bringing blogging back. (Yeah, it left for a minute. Don't look too shocked.)

  • Damn, the RIAA is not playing around with Russian-based site AllofMP3, and is slapping the illegal song-selling site with a $1.65 trillion lawsuit. Trillion with a "T", OK?

  • World-famous author and atheist Richard Dawkins gives a pretty concise opinion over at Huffington Post about Saddam Hussein's hanging a few days ago:
In any case, revenge is an ignoble motive. The usual arguments against the death penalty in general apply. If Bush and Blair are eventually put on trial for war crimes, I shall not be among those pressing for them to be hanged. But I want to add another and less obvious reason why we should not have executed Saddam Hussein. His mind would have been a unique resource for historical, political and psychological research: a resource that is now forever unavailable to scholars.
    An interesting read.

  • I've shared before how for me it's been hard to sustain friendships; the people I met and befriend are usually either hundreds of miles away or thousands of miles away. No one local, really. This article from Psychology Today sums up a lot of what I've picked up from people over the years and underscores a few important points: reciprocity, self-disclousre and intimacy. I tend to give that to people up front, and they don't really know how to respond. Methinks I should start holding it back.
