I'm about ready for 2008 to be over, and it hasn't even reached the halfway point. When y'all last left the train wreck that is Karsh in '08, Gaara and I just broke up. And at the beginning, things were peachy. We were still chatting on the phone every day and talking it up like a break-up never happened. In private though, I didn't take it so well. As a matter of fact, I didn't take it well at all. And perhaps the reason I didn't take it well was because the break-up was fairly amicable. I'm more used to the explosion which results from my usual splits. This one was highly unusual. And the adjustment for me was to withdraw from others and basically throw myself into work and school. And you know, for a while, it worked. I felt like I was on the mend and things would be cool if perhaps I would meet my ex-boyfriend-turned-acquaintance for a night out. Well…it didn't. Copious amounts of alcohol were imbibed, I ranted off some things I don't even remember while in my mixed drink induced stupor, and basically squashed the friendship. It was a bit of a rookie move, I admit. But I owned up to my shit, because I haven't gotten that smashed in a good long while. And frankly, for reasons I won't go into here, what's done has been done, and the time for arguments and shit is over. Case motherfuckin' closed. Of course, there's more shit going on besides Gaara, so a small part of me is glad that I have one less stressor so a brotha can get back to some semblance of normalcy. And many other things have happened which I haven't went into yet, like how work is going, Micro-Manager's going-away party, my impending graduation, and the search for fulfillment. That's right…Micro-Manager has left the building. I'll tell you about these things and more, plus your five-day forecast, after these messages. I just added a new feature to the blog; check over in the sidebar for a link where you can suggest a topic for me to blog about, powered by the awesome folks at Skribit. You protective types out there can even be totally anonymous about it! Of course, it'd do me a huge favor if you did register and suggest a topic according to Skribit: If you’re making a suggestion via Skribit, the main benefit of registering for an account over being an anonymous suggestor is that you’ll be able to track your suggestions and see if they were blogged. It also gives the blogger an idea of who suggested each suggestion and therefore some incentive to write on the topic compared to writing for an anonymous user.Fer sure. Or fa sho'. Whichever you prefer. Or perfo'. Technorati Tags: skribit, suggestions Filed under: Site News and Technology Comments: 2 Comments |

So unless you've been under a rock for the past two weeks, the story of Thomas Beatie, the "pregnant man" from Oregon who's story has been in numerous periodicals and even on Oprah. Thomas — born Tracy Langondino — is certainly not the first female-to-male transgender to carry a child (and certainly won't be the last), but the media and the blogosphere have been blowing this incident up to astronomical proportions. And every Tom, Dick and Vagina has an poorly-formed, hate-filled opinion on the matter, spouting Bible scriptures, homophobic remarks, and general small-minded ignorance laced with talk of damnation, sin, hell, and God. (And if you want to know what Sherri Shepherd thinks, she's already given her POV on transgendered people months ago.) Never mind that biologically, Thomas is still a woman with a uterus and fallopian tubes (actually, just one fallopian tube since he lost one in an ectopic pregnancy years earlier), and him having the child technically wouldn't be different than a lesbian couple having a child. (Then again, if you have a problem with that, you probably aren't a regular reader here anyway.) I had to say something about it, because all this hullabaloo only underscores two things about the American public:

After almost five years here, I'm surprised I'm even getting these kinds of e-mails. But nonetheless, people still ask: why did you call your site "Black" gay blogger? Hi. This is the first time I've ever written into a bloger site before, but I have to ask — why is your website called BLACK GAY BLOGGER? Is this because you're Black? I don't get it. As a white gay man, I'm surrounded by people form all walks of life, but i just dont' see race! I don't know why people like you put so much emphasis on race, and i really don't know why your site is called BLACK GAY BLOGGER. I don't even see that many Black people on here lol! Now, I didn't say they actually communicated their point intelligently now, did I? While I definitely don't write as much these days as I used to (work and school will do that to you), I'd still like to think that my perspective on issues and gay life in general is one that's not in the mainstream, on Logo or in any of the gay rag mags. And regardless of the catch-all of sexuality which LGBT folks are thrown into, there are differences between us — especially race. And it may be because while each side recognizes the other side's differences, they choose not to do shit about it. And therein lies the separation. "I don't see race"…puh-leeze. It always kills me when some LGBT people say they don't "see" race. It must be blissful to be that ignorant on something so prevalent in today's society. In any regard, I called my site Black Gay Blogger because five years ago, it was out there and avant garde…sorta. Now? Not so much. But I bought the domain, so there you have it. And as far as not seeing that many Black people on here? Tell that to the thousands of hits I get on the daily for pictures of Tracee Ellis Ross and Naima Mora.
