God, I can’t wait until I’m 30.

People tell me all the time to enjoy my youth. And don’t get me wrong, I do. I also really love it when people remind me of my age relative to my accomplishments, usually with a phrase like “oh you’re still a baby” or “you’re still a youngin’”.

Yes, it’s a pet peeve of mine. Couldn’t you tell?

Growing up, I was always in the spotlight, and it was always because I was so young and talented. I was groomed to act older without actually being older. And now that I am older, I’m being referred to and treated like a child (see: past relationships, past jobs, etc.). The young/baby/kiddo remarks are wearing thin.

For me, I see 30 as a turning point. That’s when you start being more accountable and hopefully not getting by or getting handed silly shit that folks think they can get away with because you’re in your 20′s. I’m not even worried about the lack of dates that might come when I turn 30 (the gay community’s Peter Pan syndrome could is a crock of shit anyway). I’m just a little ready to leave my 20′s behind and press forward into the future.

I’ll still enjoy the last few years of my 20s though. But I’m more than anxious to see what 30 and beyond holds. Bring it!
