It's been five years since I got the hell out of the hallowed halls of Morehouse. Good thing I managed to keep my sanity intact and my bank account full. If you've listened to any of the "Man of Morehouse" series, you'll know exactly what I mean. Well, it's over five years later, and commenter and blogger TriniSDAGay (whose handle describes The Ex too well) asked me a slew of questions begging me to update what's happened since those "Man of Morehouse" podcasts. And well...here it is. Also, I'm reminding you to go and enter my contest where I'm giving away 1000 free business cards and an 18"x24" canvas print. You know how many entries I've gotten for that contest so far? ZERO. And I've even been including instructions at the end of each T-Minus post. *sigh* See, this is why I don't do more giveaways. Don't forget that I'm giving away 1000 free business cards and an 18"x24" canvas print on my birthday (3/18) courtesy of UPrinting.com. Just leave a comment on the entry "Snooty Designers, Eh?" and follow the rules to become eligible. Filed under: Blogcasts Comments: Comments Off |

Seriously, I'm getting back on the podcast train, and I wanted to get on today and talk about freelancing and about us "snooty designers", as Forbes magazine recently discussed. I find myself educating my clients a lot about design, and I can understand how from the outside, design can look like a turtleneck-wearing, coffee-sipping elitists club. I want to smash that perception and give you the real shit from my point of view. Oh yes, I've also got a sweet surprise for you, courtesy of my new favorite printing company, UPrinting.com. Are you an artist, entrepreneur, or small business owner? UPrinting.com is giving away 1000 free standard size business cards and 1 free 18"x24" canvas print! For both items, you can choose from any of UPrinting.com's fabulous variety of stocks. Canvas Prints Business Card Printing Leave a comment at the end of this blog post, describing what you would use the free business cards or canvas print for with regards to your business. Make sure to leave the URL of your business while you fill out your comment. No spam e-mail addresses! This contest ends on March 18, 2009 (my birthday, hint hint), and I will choose both winners (one for each prize) from random using Random.org. Here's the skinny in case you missed it: Contest Prize Rules Winners in the United States and Canada qualify for free shipping. Shipping fees will apply to winners outside these areas. Thanks again for all the love and support! Filed under: Blogcasts Comments: 5 Comments |

Welcome to season 2 of the new Black Gay Blogcast. I still feel like the name should be shorter though. Maybe a Karshcast? I dunno. I figured since business was slow (bad thing), and I don't have Big Company, Inc. and school weighing me down (good thing), I would start up the blogcast again. Like I mention, I don't consider that crap I did in '08 a blogcast, so I let that just end the "season" so I could start anew. Season 2, bitches! And yes, the production values are still as minimalistic as ever. I do want to start doing this on a weekly basis though, so your input is highly valued. (Actually, some of you who saw the new Advertise page already knew this was in the works anyway.) So what do you think? Yay, nay, or good lord, stay away? I know most of y'all thought the podcast was dead. Well, you're right. It was dead for a minute. I needed to take time off to retool and listen to other podcasts to make mine better. And of course, you know I'm involved with the Black Weblog Awards and many other projects. I also had a whole bunch of other shit going on, including a startup from hell, identity theft, the flu, getting canned before Christmas, and finding a wonderful, wonderful boyfriend. What can I say? It's good to be back. Oh, don't forget about the 2008 BWA Theme Contest I'm holding, where you can win an 80GB iPod Classic! Also, help me out with finding a new name for this here audio show -- saying "the BlackGayBlogger.com Blogcast Series" is a bit of a mouthful. And who knows, you might win a fabulous prize if YOUR selection is picked. It's my birthday month, y'all! EDIT: Carla pointed that out that there's a little bit of a glitch around 2:42 -- I had some other audio cued up, and thought it was muted while mixing down. Umm...just pretend that talking you hear are fabulous guest stars! Filed under: Blogcasts Comments: Comments Off |

On this episode, I answer the questions from my Three Questions Revisited post, as well as give a little information on the 50th show and some upcoming changes to the blogcast. Enjoy! **UPDATE:** I deactivated PodPress to see if that fixes my RSS feed issue. I added the direct link to the podcast above, which should still show up as a media enclosure in any feed aggregator. If you don't see it, please let me know. Technorati Tags: blogcast, three questions Filed under: Blogcasts Comments: Comments Off |

This one's a bit long-winded -- no real topics since I was too lazy to grab my list before starting recording. Hopefully, it's still listenable. If that's a word. So...a little about PodCamp Atlanta, my session (see information below), some 101/1001 updates, AboveTheLife.com (RIP), KuttinEdgeOnline, and a few future blogcast topics gleaned from SXSW: blogging on the first date and building communities out of nothing. BTW, my birthday is in four days. 26! The slow crawl towards 30 continues.... Y'all will have to forgive me, but I have been so so busy these days. I promise, I'm not going to do a blogcast a month! Thanks to those of you who have written in with your support; I really appreciate it. In this blogcast, I talk a little bit about SoCon '07 (what was good, what was bad and what was just a hot mess) and the 2007 Atlanta Black Gay Blogger Meetup. What worked. What didn't worked. And why it may never work. *sigh* Enjoy!

Well, I had planned to squeeze in a blogcast today, but thanks to UPS, I won't be doing that. You see, I've been waiting to get my new business cards today via 2nd day air, and the delivery driver didn't even bother to knock on the door; he just left the InfoNotice and dipped. And even after calling UPS and saying how important the package was, I just got a firm "no" and was told the cards would be re-delivered on Monday. I told them I would file a complaint and they hung up on me. What can brown do for me? Not a goddamned thing. Anywho, I've got a standing appointment at 5pm today which will leave me out of the BGB Blogcast studio pocket (read: my bedroom), so I won't be able to get one out today like I had originally planned. Sorry to those of you who I e-mailed saying I would be able to. Feel free to give the finger to your local UPS man for me, would ya? Thanks. I did want to mention this though: I will be at SoCon '07 tomorrow for those of you who may also be attending. I will most definitely be doing some recording while I'm there (a little birdie told me there may be a podcast studio available) so I will try hard to have something up by Sunday. I haven't done a blogcast in damn near over a month. Sue me. I've had a lot going on and I talk about most of it here. I also address some viewer mail I've received. Not much to say other than...umm...happy new year, I guess? Technorati Tags: blogcast Filed under: Blogcasts Comments: Comments Off |
