Usually I try to follow up these obits with a quote from the recently deceased person, but a) I couldn’t find one, and b) this one deserved some special recognition.

Let’s be clear: I’ve never been an overwhelming fan of Harris’ work (see “Your Blues Ain’t Like Mine“). I can’t front on that at all. But Harris paved the way in the area of Black gay literature that few others in the scene have been able to touch. And in a way, I’d say he’s influenced Black gay bloggers as well (particularly those like yours truly). His work and his legacy will definitely live on to inspire others.
